"This a special amplifier that embodies the fundamentally correct idea of power-on-demand for any given real world load; only second to A-1060 monster, it was in production for less than a year. Yamaha managed to use Bob Carver's X-power supply patent in this and a couple other high end amps, before Carver ran to courts and blocked audiophiles from enjoying their music; A-960 II lacked X-power and was nothing special to write home about.
This is an amplifier that (when working to specs) throws a phenomenal 3D soundstage at you and does not let you go; the music is THAT good.
This is the only high end Yamaha I've ever seen that does not have preamp out/main in jacks....and do you know why? Because it does not need help to produce world class sound! It is really THAT good.
